Program Outline   

The EECU California Classic Kid’s Marathon is an innovative fitness building running/walking program designed for children first through sixth grades. Children will run the distance of a full marathon (26.2 miles) over the course of the program. To achieve this goal, kids must train for the last half mile of their marathon by running a total of 25.7 miles in 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 3/4 mile or 1 mile increments to qualify for race day participation. This is not a timed event and there are NO official winners, except the pride they will feel in knowing that they completed a full marathon!  Students can run in PE class or under parent supervision, a running log will be kept to track their progress. Mileage is based on adult supervision and the honor system. 

Safety Concerns

Your child’s safety is the most important priority for our race staff.  First, each grade will have a designated colored T-shirt that your child must wear on race day. Your packet will also contain two identical race numbers for your child. Your child is required to wear one race number on the front of their shirt so race officials can see it. The other race number is required for the parent or guardian to have so they may identify and pick up their child after the race. No children will be allowed to leave their designated area unless the adult has this matching race number. No IDs will be accepted in place of the race number.  Second, we will have uniformed officials such as firemen, policemen and Children's Hospital Nurses running with and securing the areas with children. These officials will insure that the runners stay on the correct course while offering them encouragement to finish their marathon goal.

Amenities

All kid's marathon participants receive a goody bag, grade colored t-shirt and 2 identical race number bibs.  All Kids finishing the marathon also receive a custom Kids Marathon finisher’s medal, as well as food in their own private finisher’s area.  Each child crossing the finish line will also receive a pass to the Island Water Park!

Start Times

All grades need to show up at Chkchansi Park on Saturday May 19th between 8:15am and 8:45 am. the first group of children will start at 9:00am and then every 5 minutes thereafter.

How does my Child Participate?

1. First step is to register your child!  The registration fee is $10 and you have three ways to register:   

• On-line at www.CaliforniaClassicWeekend.com
• Mail-in by downloading a entry form by clicking here
• Call 559-322-9371 and request an entry form to be mailed to you.

2. Once we receive your registration form and $10 fee, we will mail the following to the address used on the entry form: 

• Mileage log so you can track your child's progress.
• Four (4) incentives for each of the milestones achieved!  
  •  
    • CCW logo pencil
    • "Commit to be Fit" wrist bracelet
    • Chick-fil-A Kid's Meal
    • Stylish Boomerang Yo-Yo

3. Have your child start running/walking those miles!  Use the log to track their progress and remember this is the honor system. Logs can be mailed to CCW Director, 8651 N Talladega Way, Fresno, CA 93720.

4. Come to the EYE-Q California Classic Weekend Health and Fitness Expo on Thursday May 17 or Friday May 18 from 4-8 pm to pickup  your Child's goodie bag containing their T-shirt and both numbered bibs.  We will not be able to mail these items.

5. Finally come to the BIG SHOW!  Bring your child to Chukchansi Park on Saturday May 19 between 8:15 am and 8:45 am.  Make sure you have the following:

• Both numbers that you received at packet pickup in step 4 above.  One number for child and one for parent, so you will be able to pick up your child from the secure area after he/she runs.
• Your child is wearing their grade colored T-Shirt.
  

I'm a Teacher and would like to get all of my students to participate.

We too would like to see entire classes participate in this program and we will do whatever possible to encourage parents to sign-up their children.   

Some Teachers are using the program and log (with the incentive column removed)  to encourage and track miles for their entire class.  For those students that do register and pay the $10 can have their incentives given to them by their parents.
